The Sopranos (Season 5)
HBO
2004
Rating:

"The Sopranos" has never been more chilling or more gripping than during its fifth season. Tony Soprano (James Gandolfini) is manipulative and deceptive, but he has a geniality belying his all-too-apparent human frailty that makes his bloody decisions all the more harrowing. The series hit a new high (or is it low?) in cold-bloodness with the executions of the scrambling, horrified Adriana (Drea de Matteo, who has since been sentenced to purgatory with "Joey") and Tony's cousin Tony (Steve Buscemi). As Camilla's moral code continues to erode and it becomes increasingly clear that, by the end of the upcoming, supposedly last season, Tony is doomed to fail everyone he has ever cared about, "The Sopranos" remains television's most devastating depiction of domestic life.
