Come for the B-movie thrills. Stay for the intricate web of backstories revealing that, in the manner of "Short Cuts," the survivors stranded on a deserted (or is it?) island were connected before they ever boarded their ill-fated plane. While the island is filled with polar bears, possible dinosaurs and hostile co-inhabitants, discovering who these people were and what they've become is the real pleasure of watching this show. Created by "Alias" and "Felicity" mastermind J.J. Abrams and written by refugees from the "Buffy"-verse (David Fury and fan favorite Drew Goddard), it makes sense that "Lost" knows how to ground its supernatural mythology with a human mythology that's equally compelling.
