Estelle: American Boy (feat. Kanye West) (Single)
From the album "Shine"
Atlantic/Home School
2008
Rating:

UK R&B and hip-hop artist Estelle's first album "The 18th Day" didn't make much of an impression in the U.S. when it was released in 2004 despite having fans like John Legend, Talib Kweli and Natasha Bedingfield. Four years later and now signed to Legend's label Home School, Estelle seems poised to make a bigger splash here than Bedingfield or M.I.A. "American Boy," the second single from Estelle's "Shine," points toward her forthcoming domination. Kanye West guests on and Will.I.Am produces Estelle's ode to the boys of New York and L.A. "American Boy" coasts by with a sunny, breezy beat that matches Estelle's airy voice. Estelle is no great lyricist – "Don't like his baggy jeans but I'm a like what's underneath it" she says of her Yankee – but with Legend and Will.I.Am, she's found her groove.
