Perhaps confused that this was another playful song about SUVs and 22-inch rims, mainstream music listeners elevated Chamillionaire's "Ridin'" to #1 on the Billboard Hot 100, making it one of the major hip-hop songs of the summer. Or maybe more people like socially conscious rap than anyone ever suspected. Whatever the case, Chamillionaire's Thuggish flow and a beat that sounds like a particularly vicious act of plate spinning provide the basis for a cautionary tale of racial profiling. "Ridin'" may be the most searing indictment of the weighted criminal justice system ever to be called a "summer jam."
