Bun B: That's Gangsta (feat. Sean Kingston) (Single)
From the forthcoming "2 Trill"
Rap-A-Lot/U.G.K. Records
2008
Rating:

At this point in his 15-year-long career, Bun B has proved to be a better rapper when he has a partner or posse in his corner. Whether it's with Pimp C in UGK or with the platoon of artists from Jay-Z to Paul Wall to M.I.A. he has guest starred with, Bun is always seemingly more powerful as a part of a crew. Following the passing of Pimp C, that's bad news for Bun fans afraid the surviving UGK member will resort to the gangsta posturing of his first solo effort, 2005's "Trill." The name of Bun's second solo offering, "2 Trill," isn't promising, and neither is first single "That's Gangsta." The track, which features Sean Kingston and J.R. Rotem's workmanlike production, goes through the clichιs of gangsta tracks with such furious aplomb, one would think Bun had never heard a song by 50 Cent or Young Jeezy. When Bun B says, "Tell all of them fake gangstas I'm coming to bring gangsta back," it's even easier to believe he hasn't. Bun B's career is practically a tragic one filled with missed opportunities. This is yet another one.
